Huff The Green Bird Scheurebe trocken Rheinhessen 2023
It's Jerermy Huff-Bird who makes this wine and Jeremy is a New Zealander. So it's no coincidence that Scheurebe Green Bird 's expressive aroma is reminiscent of New Zealand Sauvignons. Scheurebe is supposed to be something like Rheinhessen's answer to the Sauvignon Blanc grape variety, which is popular worldwide and especially in New Zealand. However, the wine is very nice. Fruity, aromatic and very juicy. Grapefruit, apricot, pineapple, elderflower and freshly cut lawn, it's goes well with young cheese, gazpacho, or green asparagus.
The Huffs run a real family winery in Schwabsburg, a part of Nierstein on the famous Rote Hang in Rheinhessen. Today run by Christine and her New Zealand born husband Jeremy Bird-Huff, the winery has a long history. The family Huff has been making wine for more than three hundred years and Christine's parents still play a big role today. Both father Ekkehard, who still helps working in the vineyard and mother Doris, who works in sales. Christine and Jeremy's also have two children, plus the winery dog. The Huffs cultivate about 9 hectares of vineyards, including famous Niersteiner sites such as Orbel and Pettenthal and, above all, their magnificent primelocation at Schwabsburg-Rabenturm Castle. They produce as close to nature as possible, without using artificial fertilizers and herbicides. Sascha of Goldhahn und Sampson has had a long history with the Huffs, first visiting them in spring 2015, together with his family. And we have been fans and partners of this picture book winery ever since.
