Claus Schneider

The Schneiders from Weil am Rhein in the southernmost part of Baden's Markgräflerland region run a family winery in the best sense of the word. Parents Susanne and Claus have made the Weiler Schlipf vineyard famous in the wine trade, and they have long been known for their typical, yet very Burgundian Spätburgunder, full and elegant Weißburgunder and Grauburgunder. At the same time, the good old Gutedel has never been neglected, which is much more structured and interesting here than elsewhere. Wine fans appreciate all this, especially in nearby Switzerland, where the Schneiders' wine quality must seem downright absurdly cheap. So quite a bit of their wines are said to be packed into Swiss car trunks. Since the sons, Johannes and Christoph Schneider have been taking on more responsibility bit by bit, the wine style has become even tighter and more focused. In addition to the top vineyard Weiler Schlipf, other site wines have been added, such as those from the magnificent Ötlinger Sonnhole or Haltinger Stiege. The vineyard-typical classics with terroir reference are of course still on board, but there are also more and more wines that appeal to a different clientele and a lot is being tried out. Unfiltered wines without added sulphur, orange wine from Gutedel and similar exciting things. We look forward to seeing what else will happen in Weill am Rhein in the next few years.
