Artuke Pies Negros DOC Rioja Rioja 2023
Tradition meets modernity in Artuke’s Pies Negros tinto. The grapes for this Rioja are stomped by foot, which turn black from the grape juice. The name is a homage to this traditional technique of winemaking. In the glass, the personality of a modern Rioja with lots of dark berry fruit. The grapes for the Pies Negros grow in high altitude vineyards (over 500m) around the village of Abalos. This creates a powerfully concentrated wine that never turns jammy. The Tempranillo brings black cherries, plums and cocoa, the small amount of Graciano contributes peppery, spicy notes. Maturation in large wooden barrels and concrete tanks helps to tame the tannins and makes the Pies Negros a characterful, versatile companion.
