Carl Ehrhard

A few years ago, Carl Ehrhard made a decision that changed his whole life, and since then, his motto has been: more slowness and conscious action. Or as Carl describes his philosophy: 'More time is worth more to me than more money. 'His goal is to slow down life and wine and to make wines according to his own taste. Back then he threw all stainless steel tanks out of the basement. Now only 600l half pieces and 1200l piece barrels are used for fermentation and maturation. Since then Carl has worked in the vineyard without herbicides and without pesticides. No fining agents or bentonite are used in the basement. The wines are fermented spontaneously and only minimally filtered. He also reduced the size of his vineyard to 7.5 hectares, because what he does is only possible on a small scale. Carl knows his vines down to the smallest detail. When he was eight years old, he already helped his father to plant part of the 'Kuhweg' plot in Bischofsberg in Rüdesheim. A special detail is the old parcel names on his labels: they refer to the original parcels prior to the 1971 site simplification. We're very pleased to be able to offer Carl Ehrhard's beautiful wines from such great Rüdesheimer locations as Berg Roseneck and Berg Rottland. Our advice: The wines can take a lot of air, so we recommend to drink them from large wine glasses. Once opened, the wines increase in the bottle on the second and third day.
