In this hands-on class, you'll learn the techniques of knife sharpening—a fundamental skill for any professional or home cook. Master sharpener and kitchen knife maker Hugo Petry will be teaching traditional free hand sharpening techniques in this class, which includes a perfect blend of theoretical insights and hands-on practical experience. Here you will learn everything you need to know on transforming a dull knife into a perfect cutting tool.

Designed for both home cooks and professionals, this class focuses on practical skills you can immediately apply at home—no prior experience required. 

All necessary materials, including carefully chosen knives and sharpening tools, will be provided for use during the workshop. *you don't have to bring your own* . If you have your own knives, feel free to bring them for personalized guidance.

At the end of the class, the participant will bring home:

  • New self-sharpened knife
  • Brochure with class content
  • Knowledge to be able to assess and judge the correct way to tackle the sharpening process as well as the equipment choice
  • The ability to maintain a sharp knife and mitigate edge damage during use.

Hugo Petry

Hugo Petry is a knife specialist with over 10 years of professional sharpening experience. Coming from a craft-oriented background in woodworking and metalwork, he later transitioned into the professional kitchen, where sharpening quickly became his specialty. Having worked alongside top chefs in Brazil, Hugo developed a deep understanding of how knife performance affects ingredients and cooking results. His approach focuses not only on sharpness, but on creating edges that stay sharp longer.
