2019 Seehof Pinot Rosé Rheinhessen
Seehof Pinot Rosé Spätburgunder is one of our absolute favorites when it gets warmer. Year after year, it is a safe bank when it comes to good and affordable German rosé. Pinot Rosé also proves some basic rules of the market economy wrong: The demand for this stunning rosé is considerably larger than the supply, the wine almost always sells out, and yet it comes at this relaxed price. Beautiful, isn't it? Made from high-quality Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir) grapes from chalky Westhofen locations, it has a typical Pinot fruit, lots of freshness, a little minerality, and a lot of charm. Raspberry, ripe strawberry, herbs, ripe lemon. Juicy, fruity, very harmonious. Great as a aperitif or summer evening wine, but also very good with young goat cheese, seafood pasta, and grilled fish and seafood.
The Seehof winery in the famous Rhine-Hessian wine town of Westhofen is run by the Fauth family in the fifth generation. Fauth's son Florian is responsible for the winemaking and the style of the wines and father Ernst takes care of the care of the vineyards. Over a thousand years old, the Seehof itself is a small piece of cultural history. Fauth relies on fully ripe grapes, a strict selection, a lot of manual work, and a clear elaboration of the profile of the Westhofen locations such as Morstein and Kirchspiel. Of course, it's all about the terroir hero Riesling, but the Fauths also score highly with grape varieties like Scheurebe or Auxerrois, and with wines like the incredible Pinot Noir Rosé, which sells out quickly for this reason. We've been working with Florian's wines for a long time and can say with great certainty: They have always been good ambassadors for their Westhofen terroir, but are still getting better and better and are now clearly at the top of the region.
