2019 Claus Preisinger Puzsta Libre Burgenland
Claus Preisinger's Puzsta Libre is a homage to a good Beaujolais. But not from Gamay, but from local heroes Zweigelt, St. Laurent and Pinot Noir. He also refers to the Pannonian steppe region around Lake Neusiedl, the Puzsta. The wine is neither sulfurized nor filtered, and it's light, fresh, cool, and animating. Cherry, sloe, currant, some pepper, and smoke. Well chilled it goes very well with light meals or grilled food.
Claus Preisinger's wines from Gols in Burgenland have been with us for a long time and inspire us year after year. Within a few years, Claus has developed a very independent style among Austrian winegrowers. Near the shores of Lake Neusiedl, he relies on biodynamic work methods with a lot of manual labour in the vineyard and well-considered relaxation in the cellar. He dispenses with cultivated yeasts, enzymes, and additives, and his wines are not filtered and hardly any of them are sulfurized. This also made his wines more clear, puristic, and exciting over the years. Claus now mainly relies on regional grape varieties, such as Zweigelt, St. Laurent, Blaufränkisch, or Grüner Veltliner.
