Felline's Alberello is made of two of the most important grape varieties in Apulia. The blend of 50% Primitivo and 50% Negroamaro is named after the traditional cultivation of the vines. Gregory Perrucci is committed to preserving this old technique, which is more time-costly than other forms of cultivation. In the nose a lot of berries - blueberry, blackberry and red currant. Fruity, but slightly tart in the mouth with soft fruit. A very harmonious wine, we highly recommend!

Puglia is located in the sunny south of the Italian boot - it's the heel, so to speak. When many wine merchants turn around when they hear the word Primitivo, Gregory Perrucci has been showing for years with his Felline winery in Manduria that the wines from this maligned grape variety unjustly have a bad reputation. For a long time, things didn't look good for Primitivo. In the 1980s and 1990s, the EU tried to deal with the overproduction of wine in the member countries and paid winegrowers tempting premiums if they tore out their vines. Puglia and Primitivo in particular were hit hard by these grubbings when, at the same time, on the other side of the world in California, wines made from Primitivo were enjoying great success under the local name Zinfandel. That was also the moment when Gregory Perrucci, a trained pianist, devoted himself entirely to the wines of his hometown Manduria and set out to save Primitivo. In 1994, he bought the first few hectares of land and an old estate called Felline and set to work. Especially the preservation of the traditional vine training as "Alberello" is important to him - in contrast to the modern and less labour-intensive wireframe training. In the meantime, many hectares of vineyards have been added in and around Manduria, which allow Gregory to work with the different soils of Apulia. Thus, there are also subtle differences to be discovered in the Primitivo, depending on whether it grows on red terra rossa or black sandy soil. Even if some wine merchants do not want to admit it - Primitivo does not come from primitive.
