2018 Cantina Adriano Barbera d'Alba DOC Superiore Piemonte
The top location Basarin is actually known for fantastic Barbarescos, but the Adrianos' Barbera d'Alba Superiore also comes from here. The vineyard is very steep and faces directly southwest. Insanely dense and intense with soft tannin and body. Ripe berries, plum, cherry, some tobacco and balsamic notes. Fermented in stainless steel and then rounded off for several months in large wooden barrels.
Sometimes all you want is a really good glass of wine. Then the Adrianos are just the right place for you. Brothers Marco and Vittorio Adriano run a classic Piedmontese family business, where everyone, from grandfather Aldo to daughter Michela, is involved in the winemaking. During a visit, you will immediately notice how satisfied they are to be able to work together as a family. The estate is located in San Rocco Seno d'Elvio, just outside the truffle capital Alba. In 1994 the Adrianos started bottling and marketing their own wine. The hard work has paid off, as now 30 hectares of vineyards and 10 hectares of hazelnuts are cultivated sustainably. Marco works long hours in the vineyards and sometimes even brings along a truffle or two from his tours. Vittorio, on the other hand, takes care of the ageing of the wines, which mature in the imposing brick cellar in large wooden barrels made of French and Slavonian oak. The Adrianos are absolute Barbaresco specialists, but also make very harmonious Barberas that are worth every cent.
