2017 Simon Bize Bourgogne rouge les Perrières Bourgogne
Domaine Simon Bize also makes Pinot Noirs with a strong character on the Côte de Beaune. The grapes for the Bourgogne Rouge les Perrières come from rocky locations north of Savigny. The wine is fermented with native yeasts and matured in oak barrels. Ripe fruit on the nose, underlaid with fresh minerality. Blackberry, sloe, and black cherry. Grippy tannins and noticeable freshness, slightly tart at the end. Goes very well with braised vegetables, game and mushroom dishes.
Domaine Simon Bize in Savigny-lès-Beaune has been making great, but still affordable Burgundy wines for many years. The high reputation of the estate is based on the pioneering work of Patrick Bize, who put the family winery on the list of the best producers of the Côte de Beaune. After Patrick's death, his wife Chisa continues to run the winery just as ambitiously and with the same love for detail. It' very difficult to find better wines for a similar price in the heartland of Burgundy.
