2016 Claus Preisinger Pannobile Burgenland
Pannobile is a Burgenland winegrowers' association whose members each produce a particularly high-quality wine from selected locations, which is allowed to bear the name Pannobile on its label. Claus Preisinger's version is a cuvée made from Zweigelt and Blaufränkisch. It's fermented spontaneously in large wooden vats and aged in wooden barrels of various sizes for 16 months. Lots of ripe, dark fruit on the nose. Smooth and full in the mouth, but also nice and fresh. Blackberry, black cherry, some cassis, some spice, and subtle toasted notes.
Claus Preisinger's wines from Gols in Burgenland have been with us for a long time and inspire us year after year. Within a few years, Claus has developed a very independent style among Austrian winegrowers. Near the shores of Lake Neusiedl, he relies on biodynamic work methods with a lot of manual labour in the vineyard and well-considered relaxation in the cellar. He dispenses with cultivated yeasts, enzymes, and additives, and his wines are not filtered and hardly any of them are sulfurized. This also made his wines more clear, puristic, and exciting over the years. Claus now mainly relies on regional grape varieties, such as Zweigelt, St. Laurent, Blaufränkisch, or Grüner Veltliner.
