Loersch Blauschiefer Riesling trocken from Loersch Winery is named after the rock on which it grew. This type of slate gives the wine its characteristic spice and lightness. The grapes for the Blauschiefer come from cooler locations or as a selection for larger wines from the "Trittenheimer Altärchen" and the "Leiwener Klostergarten". The wine ferments spontaneously in the stainless steel tank where its freshness and clarity stems from. A lot of citrus fruit, lime peel and ripe pear on the nose. This first impression is supported by the aroma of fresh culinary herbs and the typical flavour of the slate. With its captivating drinking flow, the Blauschiefer is a great introduction to the subject of Moselle Riesling.

The Loersch winery sits high up on the Zummethöhe above the Moselle loop between the places Leiwen and Tritteheim. It's easy to lose your head in the clouds here, but Alexander Loersch has both feet firmly on the ground. With the steep slopes that he manages, everything else would be fatal. The family is firmly rooted in the region. In 2009 Alexander took over the winery from his parents and is now the thirteenth generation to run it. The Loerschs' location portfolio includes some real gems from the Moselle. Alexander cultivates plots in the "Trittenheimer Apotheke", in "Dhroner Hofberg" and "Piesporter Goldtröpfchen". The plots of the "Trittenheim Apotheke" are a real treasure. The vines there are 50 to 100 years old and grow in a steep, terraced position. Everything here is handmade, and it takes a lot of hard work to produce the Rieslings. The result are dry and sweet wines with impressive clarity, as the old vines and the slate grounds bring a lot of depth and a great flavour. Alexander is known to be a Lieblich drinker, a fan of sweet wines. And you can notice this in his wines. The fine-tart and fruity-sweet Rieslings are a real specialty of the estate and are characterised by a delicate balance of sweetness and acidity as well as their exhilarating lightness. Definitely try it!
