2021 Meier Weyher Riesling Granit trocken Pfalz
A great terroir Riesling full of character - for a very decent price. Weyer Granit from Weingut Meier has everything in store that makes a good Riesling from the Palatinate. A nice, clear fruit, with notes of ripe apricot, peach and cox orange. In addition, a powerful spice, some smoke, an especially vibrating minerality and a good length. The Riesling vine is deeply rooted in weathered granite floors and as it is searching for nutrients, it brings up many many minerals from the soil. An impressive, terroir-related wine, with a lot of maturation potential. Goes very well with anything salty-iodine such as shellfish and miso soup. You've been waiting for this wine!
As a cellar master, Georg Meier and his parents run the Meier winery in Weyer in the southern Palatinate. The Meiers are proven Riesling specialists and produce a whole range of terroir-shaped wines from their impressive variety of locations. But they'll make a lot more than that: There are great crémants, juicy Silvaner, nice Burgundies and also very neat red wines. All wines are characterized by being firm, cool and refreshing, while having sufficient body at the same time. The Meier's wines are straightforward with no frills, have traction, but are not lightweight. Typical Southern Palatinate.
