2018 Claus Preisinger Kalk und Kiesel rot Burgenland
Kalk & Kiesel red is a very light and drink-animating natural wine. The cuvée is a real field blend of Blaufränkisch, Zweigelt, Merlot and to a small extent white grapes. It's slim, vibrant, and slightly mineral. Fresh with loads of berries on the nose, red flowers, and flint. Red currant and blackberry in the mouth, fresh acidity, and some tannins. Invigorating!
Claus Preisinger's wines from Gols in Burgenland have been with us for a long time and inspire us year after year. Within a few years, Claus has developed a very independent style among Austrian winegrowers. Near the shores of Lake Neusiedl, he relies on biodynamic work methods with a lot of manual labour in the vineyard and well-considered relaxation in the cellar. He dispenses with cultivated yeasts, enzymes, and additives, and his wines are not filtered and hardly any of them are sulfurized. This also made his wines more clear, puristic, and exciting over the years. Claus now mainly relies on regional grape varieties, such as Zweigelt, St. Laurent, Blaufränkisch, or Grüner Veltliner.
