Korean BBQ in English
Perfect Korean Marinades
with Yurim Byun

There is no better season than BBQ season. And in Korea we eat BBQ for four seasons. Possibly you might have Korean BBQ almost every day. There are a lot of different kinds of BBQ and they have all different tastes depending on the restaurant. We will learn one of the most popular Skewered spicy grilled chicken called “Dakkochi”, wonderful tasty Korean seafood pancake called "Haemul Pajeon" and as a side dish, spicy cucumber and spring onion salad called “Oimuchim”. Wrap the grilled meat and rice with a handful of fresh leaves is the Korean traditional way of eating BBQ. So you can have well balanced nutrition at one bite which is also taste good. Once you learn these Korean BBQ recipes, you will be able to bring the marinated meat to a BBQ party. And you will be a star that day.

Important rules due to Corona

We adhere to the daily guidelines of the Berlin Senate for all courses in our culinary school, so changes at short notice are always possible.

To be able to run cooking classes, we've created a protection and hygiene concept with regards to the current situation. Our cooking class assistants will explain to you the rules before the beginning of the course. These are the most important changes:

  • As only two people will operate a cooking station, you need to book 2 tickets. Single tickets cannot be purchased for the time being, as the participants must be people from the same household or people from an acquainted household. Of course you can join a cooking class on your own, but you would need to buy two tickets and run your own cooking station.
  • All cooking course participants as well as cooking course teachers and assistants must wear a mouth and nose protector when entering the store, while cooking or when going to the toilet. It is not necessary to wear a mask when eating at the table.
  • Alcohol is only served at the table during the meal.
  • While cooking you are not allowed to walk around the kitchen and 'visit' other cooking stations. Due to safety reasons everyone has to stay at their own station.

We have to insist on compliance with our protection and hygiene concept. Our staff will of course help to ensure that everything runs smoothly.

Yurim Byun

Yurim was born in Seoul, South Korea in 1982. At the age of 9, she began cooking ‘Kalguksu’, a noodle soup, from scratch without a recipe book. Cooking was a form of playing for the little girl who was an only child. She later went to Japan to study where she started a side job in a Japanese restaurant located in Shibuya in 2004. This experience brought her onto her path to her career as a caterer. Since moving to Berlin in 2012, she has been working in the gastronomy scene. During her second year in Berlin, she became a private chef on ‘Kitchensurfing’. In 2014, she decided to start her own catering business called ‘Eat me Catering’, which focused on authentic Korean cuisine with a modern twist in presentation. “I don’t have recipes, I just cook with feelings,” says Yurim. As a Korean who was born and raised in Korea, she knows how Korean food should be, as all daughters learn to cook from their mothers. Her unique and distinctive style which she infuses into her dishes, creates something very special. Through her years of experience working as a caterer, she began to understand Berlin food trends and her mission became “Make everyone happy”. With her preparations, she focuses on healthy Korean food that includes good nutrition balance, vegan, gluten-free, and superfoods.

Class type:
Cooking in teams of two — In this class you will cook together with a partner (or sometimes 2 partners) at one station. You will be preparing every dish of the menu yourself. Most of the ingredients, already correctly measured, will be waiting for you at your station, so you can start cooking more quickly. Crucial techniques and/or the use of special equipment will be demonstrated by the teacher before you’ll have a go yourself. This class is perfect for everyone who likes to have a real hands-on experience.
